Attorney consultation in Israel: how to prepare

What to bring to a first meeting with an Israeli attorney, and how a consultation differs from ongoing representation.

A first consultation with an attorney in Israel is usually a structured meeting: facts, documents, and a realistic map of options under Israeli law. It is not yet a court filing and does not, by itself, create ongoing representation.

What to bring

  • Identity documents and, if relevant, a power of attorney or prior judgments.
  • Contracts, correspondence, and a short timeline of events.
  • Questions in writing — especially if the meeting is not in your first language.

Israel is a multilingual practice environment. Confirm in advance whether the meeting can be held in Hebrew, English, Russian, or French, and whether a translator is needed for exhibits.

Fees and next steps

The Israel Bar publishes recommended minimum fees. A consultation without document review is typically cheaper than a review of a file. The office confirms VAT separately and records the final fee in a written agreement. See the recommended attorney fee schedule.

If you decide to proceed, the next step is a written engagement: scope, deadlines, and who signs. Until that letter exists, treat the meeting as advice only. Browse legal services in Israel for related matters.
